William Carroll (1915/2014) était un photographe américain propriétaire d'un studio de développement. C'est David Conover qui lui présenta Norma Jeane. Quand ce dernier découvrit les clichés de David Conover et de Potter Hueth il pensa immédiatement que Norma Jeane serait parfaite pour une campagne publicitaire qu'il voulait mettre en place : un dépliant publicitaire ventant la qualité des tirages et de développement du laboratoire Ansco Color. Ce dépliant n'a jamais été retrouvé. Il donna rendez-vous à Norma Jeane et vint la chercher un matin du mois d'août 1946, et non 1945 comme il l'a prétendu par la suite. Ils se rendent sur la plage de Castel Rock en Californie où Norma Jeane se change sur place avec les vêtements qu'elle avait emporté. Elle posa de manière très naturelle pendant toute la journée. Sur les 96 photos que William Carroll prit ce jour là, 25 ont été vendues aux enchères chez Christie's en 1988. William Carroll ne se rappelait plus qu'il avait photographié la future Marilyn Monroe : 'Je crois sincèrement que mes photos présentent une femme différente de celle qu’on connait. Je n’avais aucune idée de qui était Monroe jusqu’à ce que je lise le magazine Time 40 ans plus tard. Je n’avais aucune idée que j’avais photographié la même femme.'

William Carroll (1915/2014) was an American photographer who owned a development studio. David Conover introduced Norma Jeane to William Carroll. When the latter discovered the clichés of David Conover and Potter Hueth he immediately thought that Norma Jeane would be perfect for an advertising campaign he wanted to set up: an advertising leaflet showcasing the quality of the prints and development of the Ansco Color laboratory. This flyer was never found. He made an appointment with Norma Jeane and picked her up one morning in August 1946, not 1945 as he later claimed. They go to the beach of Castel Rock in California where Norma Jeane changes her clothes on the spot. She posed very naturally throughout the day. Of the 96 photos William Carroll took that day, 25 were auctioned off at Christie’s in 1988. William Carroll couldn’t remember he had photographed the future Marilyn Monroe :"I sincerely believe that my pictures present a different woman than the one they know. I had no idea who Monroe was until I read that Time magazine 40 years later. I had no idea I had photographed the same woman."

William Carroll’s magazine covers are very little utltized by magazine publishers.
