Bruno Bernard aussi appelé Bernard of Hollywood (1912 /1987) était un photographe américain (né à Berlin) surtout connu pour ses photographies de pin-ups. Il a débuté en photographie sans formation formelle préalable. Inspiré par une brève formation en réalisation et une collaboration avec le célèbre artiste Pin-Up Alberto Vargas, Bruno Bernard a développé son propre style unique de portrait glamour qu'il a appelé le " posé candide". Il a rapidement ouvert son propre studio sur Hollywood boulevard. Il a rencontré pour la première fois Norma Jeane en 1945 alors qu'elle débutait en tant que modèle. La même année que David Conover ou André De Dienes. Norma Jeane fit de nombreuses couvertures de magazines grâce aux photographies de Bruno Bernard. Il photographia Marilyn Monroe de nombreuses fois, pour des photos promotionelles pour Niagara, La joyeuse parade ou 7 ans de réflexion. "Pour moi elle était la "girl next door" typique. Elle avait un teint de pêche et c'est à cette époque que j'ai fait avec elle des photos de pin-ups en maillot de bains deux pièces, ce qui, croyez le ou non, était très osé à l'époque."

Dans de nombreux livres qu'il a consacré à Marilyn, Bruno Bernard aimait à raconter que c'était lui qui l'avait découvert et que c'était grâce aux photographies qu'il avait prises de Norma Jeane qu'elle avait passé des essais à la 20th century fox. Il raconte avoir insisté pour que ces essais soient en couleur, qu'il a appellé lui-même Darryl Zannuck pour lui faire signer un contrat, alors que la vérité est toute autre. Bruno Bernard, tout comme Joseph Jasgur, s'est également approprié de nombreux clichés qui ne sont pas de lui mais de Frank Powolny, Richard C. Miller, Nickolas Murray ou encore Sam Levin pour Brigitte Bardot...Il est compliqué encore aujourd'hui de savoir quelles photos sont vraiment de lui, notamment celles qui sont en réalité de Powolny.
