Marilyn Monroe lassée des rôles médiocres que lui proposaient la 20th century fox part de Los Angeles pour New-York à la fin de l'année1954. Le 7 janvier 1955 Marilyn Monroe annonce au monde entier la création de sa propre société de productions : les Marilyn Monroe productions dont le but premier est de d'améliorer le travail de Marilyn en jouant dans de meilleurs films. Vingt-quatre journalistes, des amis, mais aussi Marlène Dietrich sont réunis dans la maison de l'avocat Frank Delaney pour l'annonce de cette déclaration. Marilyn Monroe est la présidente de cette societé à 51% et son ami le photographe Milton H.Greene est le vice-président avec 49%. Pour fêter l'évènement, Marilyn invita Greene et d'autres amis au Copacabana, un night club où chantait Frank Sinatra. Au bout d'un an, la societé de productions parvient à renégocier le contrat de non-exclusivité avec la Fox. Marilyn Monroe productions démarra deux projets, Bus stop (1956) et sa première et seule productions indépendante The prince and the showgirl (1957). Marilyn Monroe productions ne produisit pas d'autres films.

On January 7, 1955 Marilyn Monroe announces to the world the creation of her own production company: the Marilyn Monroe productions whose primary goal is to improve Marilyn’s work by playing in better films. Twenty-four journalists, friends, but also Marlene Dietrich are gathered in the house of lawyer Frank Delaney for the announcement of this statement. Marilyn Monroe is the president of this company at 51% and her friend the photographer Milton H.Greene is the vice-president with 49%. To celebrate, Marilyn invited Greene and other friends to the Copacabana, a night club where Frank Sinatra sang. After one year, the production company managed to renegotiate the non-exclusivity contract with Fox.
