John Vachon (1914/1975) est un photographe américain qui a travaillé pour les magazines Life puis Look avant de terminer sa carrière comme photographe indépendant. Il a photographié Marilyn Monroe en 1953 sur le tournage de River of no return au Canada. Quand il arrive sur le tournage Marilyn se remet d'une entorse à la cheville. Ses premières photos sont prises dans sa chambre d'Hôtel et Joe DiMaggio qu'elle fréquentait depuis un an est également présent. Il écrit à sa femme que Marilyn "était une fille très intéressante, vraiment différente de toute préconception, juste une fille sympathique, pas particulièrement sexy, comme on dit, plutôt douce et stupide. Évidemment folle amoureuse de ce DiMaggio..." La plupart de des photos de Vachon restèrent inédites pendant plus de soixante ans jusqu'à la sortie du livre The lost Look photos paru en 2010.
John Vachon (1914/1975) is an American photographer who worked for Life and Look magazines before finishing his career as an independent photographer. He photographed Marilyn Monroe in 1953 on the set of River of no return in Canada. When he arrives on the set Marilyn recovers from a sprained ankle. His first photos are taken in his hotel room and Joe DiMaggio is also present. He writes to his wife that Marilyn "was a very interesting girl, really different from any preconception, just a nice girl, not particularly sexy, as they say, rather sweet and dumb. Obviously crazy in love with this DiMaggio fellow..." Most of Vachon’s photos remained unpublished for more than sixty years until the 2010 book The lost Look photos was released.
