Jack Cardiff (1914/2009) est un directeur de la photographie et réalisateur Anglais qui a travaillé notamment avec Alfred Hitchcok et Joseph Mankiewicz. Il a été engagé par Marilyn Monroe comme directeur de la photographie pour le film The prince and the showgirl en 1956, car elle avait appris qu'il était un des meilleurs directeurs de la photographie anglais. Il est devenu une sorte de confident de Marilyn Monroe pendant le tournage. Au cours de l'une de leur longue discussion sur l'art, Cardiff suggeré de la prendre en photo comme un tableau de Renoir (ci-contre). L'une des photos prises par Jack Cardiff est devenue la photo preférée de son mari Arthur Miller. Marilyn Monroe lui a un jour remis une photo signée sur laquelle elle avait écrit ce mot : "Cher Jack, si seulement je pouvais être comme tu m'as créé." Cardiff a déclaré à propos de Marilyn " elle n'était pas une grande actrice, elle était géniale. Elle possédait un talent qui n'apparaissaient que sur l'écran. Elle dégageait une magie que savait capter la caméra. Mais elle avait une personnalité double. Larry Oliver la disait schizoïde, et c'était vrai."

Jack Cardiff (1914/2009) is an English director of photography who has worked with Alfred Hitchcok and Joseph Mankiewicz. He was hired by Marilyn Monroe as director of photography for the film The prince and the showgirl in 1956, as she had learned that he was one of the best directors of English photography. He became a kind of confidant of Marilyn Monroe during the shooting. During one of their lengthy discussions on art, Cardiff suggested taking a picture of it as a Renoir painting. One of the photos taken by Jack Cardiff became the photo of her husband Arthur Miller. Marilyn Monroe once gave her a signed photo on which she wrote this note: "Dear Jack, if only I could be like you created me." Cardiff said," she wasn’t a great actress, she was great. She had a talent that only appeared on the screen. She had a magic that the camera knew how to capture. But she had a double personality. Larry Oliver called her schizoid, and it was true."
