Carl Perutz (1921/1981) est un photographe americain qui a travaillé différents styles, du photojournalisme en passant par la mode, la publicité ou le portrait. Il a travaillé pour l'agence Magnum et le magazine Life entre autres. En juin 1958, avant que Marilyn Monroe ne commence le tournage de Some like it Hot, Carl Perutz est engagé par la Hearst corporation afin de réaliser des portraits de personnalités avec des chapeaux de mode, pour la couverture du supplément du magazine American Weekly. Finalement le magazine ne fera pas sa couverture avec Marilyn Monroe qui sera remplacée par des illustrations des photos prises par Perutz. Certains de ces clichés furent achetés par Marilyn Monroe elle-même, bien que pourtant elle n'aimait pas poser ni avec des chapeaux ni avec des bijoux qui, selon elle, attirent l'oeil au détriment du modèle. Ces photos restèrent inédites jusqu'à leur découverte dans un entrepot New-Yorkais au début des années 80.

Carl Perutz (1921/1981) is an American photographer who has worked in various styles, from photojournalism to fashion, advertising and portraiture. He worked for the agency Magnum and the magazine Life among others. In June 1958, before Marilyn Monroe began filming Some like it Hot, Carl Perutz was hired by the Hearst corporation to make celebrity portraiture with fashion hats for the cover of the American Weekly magazine supplement. Finally the magazine will not make its cover with Marilyn Monroe which will be replaced by illustrations of the photos taken by Perutz. Some of these photographs were bought by Marilyn Monroe herself, although she did not like to pose either with hats or with jewels which, according to her, attract the eye at the expense of the model. These photos remained unpublished until they were discovered in a New York warehouse in the early 1980s.
